Text-AI: Gaining valuable insights by analyzing maintenance comments and downtime reasons

Do you know which part of the machine is most frequently cleaned without cleaning being planned? Or how many OEE percentage points you lose due to film tears? Who doesn’t know this: production documents with comments pile up but are not analyzed due to a lack of time. Text-AI makes the knowledge accessible that is buried in maintenance texts and downtime comments. Identify recurring, systematic problems described in the texts and find troubleshooting tips in your team’s maintenance history.

Texts and comments included in maintenance reports, downtime reasons, and shift logs have been hardly analyzed so far and were overlooked in the context of Industry 4.0 and digitalization. This is particularly frustrating as these texts contain valuable information about opportunities for improvement in the company. Thanks to sensors and Andon systems, the OEE is automatically calculated, and every micro-downtime is logged to the millisecond. But the downtime reason or the context of the problem is often hidden in the comments documenting the malfunction.

Up to now, you had to rely on the reports and experience of your production employees to find out more about downtimes. It is quite common that employees are asked to sort malfunctions by failure groups. But the failure groups are either too vague (mechanic, electric, shortage of material…) to derive specific conclusions, or too many of the malfunctions are assigned to unspecific groups such as “Other”.

The new mApp by Peoplegeist

Peoplegeist Text-AI is a new mApp made by Peoplegeist to solve this problem. The application is based on artificial intelligence (AI) and has been trained to read manufacturing subjects in order to understand your text comments from production. The mApp reads your texts, identifies the problems and their frequency, and lists the maintenance activities performed.

Shorten troubleshooting time by sharing knowledge:

If a problem has occurred before, no matter how long ago, Peoplegeist helps your team to find out what steps were taken to resolve the issue at the time.

A QR code on your machine helps employees access the Peoplegeist tool and search for known symptoms of the machine. They can also see which steps were most helpful in the past.

Troubleshooting experience of the colleagues can be shared among all employees without extra effort. Reduce the time you waste for troubleshooting and thus also your mean time to repair (MTTR)
